Red Letter Series – Don’t Worry

Passage: Luke 12: 22-24, 28b-32 ; Matthew 5: 26; Job 19: 25; Matthew 6: 33; Isaiah 26: 6
Service Type:

In today's message Jesus is warning about the hypocrisy of the scribes and Pharisees, who were more concerned about the things of the world than the things of God (As Jesus had also done previously in the Sermon on the Mount).

He also warns us to not be greedy. Someone interrupted Him to ask about money.

We need to give attention to His words. He challenges us not to worry but to focus on Him.

Jesus had been teaching the disciples about greed and tells them a parable about a foolish farmer.

If you depend on Jesus, He will look after you. Do not collect riches here on the earth.

Jesus is talking to all those who have chosen to follow Him faithfully. We need to obey His commands - Do not worry! Do not think as the world does. He wants us to be clothed and fed but we should preoccupy us constantly.

The word "worry" literally means to strangle. Which will happen if we keep thinking in the world's ways.

"Worry does not empty tomorrow of sorrow but empties today of strength" according to Corrie ten Boom.

Jesus always says that we WILL have troubles in this world, but if we focus our thoughts and faith on Jesus we can say "Here be God!"

If we worry can tear us apart and destroy us.  Worry is one of the greatest weapons that the devil uses against us today.

Cover your mind with the things of Jesus.

God takes care of the birds, how much more will he take care of us!

Psalm 23 - The Lord is MY shepherd I shall not want

Ephesians 3: 20

Romans 8: 28

1 John 4: 4 - God who is in me is greater than he who is in the world

Philippians 4: 19

More and more attacks will hit us, so we need to rely more and more on Jesus.

Pr0verbs 3: 5-6

Seek first the Kingdom of God!

This is the day the Lord has made, let's rejoice and be glad in it!
