Biblical Worldview (W) – Jesus is the Way
Eva-Lena Welcome – Welcome
1. Good morning. It’s time to start our day together. And we are really glad for those of you who are here already. And we know that there are more joining us. The theme of today’s service is that Jesus is the way. And you will find that the songs we will sing today is a lot of focus on who Jesus is and his uniqueness. And we will start with a song just giving thanks to God for His release. I think you need to stand up on this one.
Billy Hellmark – Reading Psalm 100
2. Good morning again to those of you who are here early. And to all of you that just came, a very good morning. And we are here today to praise the Lord together. I was going to say that you could sit down, but I think it’s good if you can remain standing.
3. And we will read a Psalm. Unfortunately, we don’t have it on the screens. If you have a Bible, you can find Psalm 100. And we’re going to read a whole long song together. But it’s five verses. So, I think we can do that. So, let’s first read it in Greek. Stavros, you will lead us in Greek, and then we will read it in English.
4. Maybe there weren’t that many that had a Greek Bible available, so you could join. But if you have an English Bible now, we can read as many as can together. “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Amen.
5. Let’s do this all together, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever.”
Eva-Lena – Short Prayer
6. Let’s do this song once again. And for those of you who came a bit later, I just want to say again that the theme for today, is ‘Jesus is the Way’. And a lot of our songs today will focus on this thing, who Jesus is and his uniqueness. We know that without Jesus we would not reach God. Many of the songs will be like prayer, and make it into your own prayer.
7. We sing songs both in English and in Greek. And when you find it hard to follow in Greek, just sing it in English, that’s fine too. But let’s put Jesus at the center today.
8. As Lord I pray that you will help us, never forget that you are the only way to God. And that you made it possible through your death on the cross to make it possible for us to know our Father God. We are so grateful for that Lord. God, we say sorry for the times when we lose sight of you, when we forget that you are the most important thing in our lives. You are the foundation for our life and we cannot live without it. Nothing else matters. Nothing else matters. Thank you, Lord.
Billy – Announcements and Prayer
9. You can sit down. It’s good to be in God’s presence, isn’t it? And in case you didn’t know, He never leaves us. He never forsakes us. Whether we feel Him or not, He never changes. We change all the time. We change how we feel, what we’re thinking, but He remains the same.
10. We have a few announcements. And I hope I will get this right. I will try. If we need, Leto will help us. On Wednesday night at seven o’clock, there will be prayer and a Bible talk, a Bible discussion here. And that’s 7:00 in the evening, not in the morning. You can come in the morning as well if you want. You can, as always, send prayer requests by email. And the address is prayer@glyfadacc.org. The church will pray with you.
11. We have a service next Sunday morning. I think, is this correct, 17th of October, there is a ladies’ morning at the church? Yes. Okay, if you’re a lady and you want to come to that morning on the 17th, please let Leto know. And just so us men will not feel left out, the following Saturday, there will be a men’s breakfast at Stavros and Leto’s home, I believe.
12. It says here also, don’t forget. And can you guess what you’re not supposed to forget? It says here, read your Bible. Don’t forget that. That’s good, isn’t it? Today is actually the last day of a prayer initiative that’s been going on for 13 days. And it’s been focused on reaching people that don’t know about Christ in different countries. And today is actually the last day of this prayer initiative.
13. And the idea today is that we would pray for different groups of people in our own countries that don’t know about Christ. And we live in a country with lots of churches, lots of crosses. But we know there are many people here. They know about God. But maybe don’t know Him personally. There are people that know very little because they come from a country maybe where Christ is not so well known. But there are many people in this country that need to know about Jesus Christ.
14. There are many people that are struggling and facing big challenges in their lives and that need our prayers. And they may actually be very close to you. Maybe you’re sitting next to them on the metro or in the same building. Let’s take just a few moments and pray. And I think we can do like this. Where you’re sitting, you can pray on your own. Maybe you know you have neighbors or you have friends or people you don’t know. Pray that they would know Jesus Christ.
15. If they’re struggling in their lives, pray that God would come into their situation and change their situation. And you can pray on your own. Or if you want, you can pray with someone sitting close to you. Pray in whatever way you want. Let’s just take one or two minutes to pray. Thank you, Jesus Christ.
16. And we can pray to you. You came and gave your life for us. And not only for us. We know that you loved this world. And that means our families, our neighbors, our friends, even our enemies. And we want to pray today. We pray for those we have around us in this beautiful country. That they may know who you are. That they may see your goodness, your kindness.
17. And we pray that many, there are even in our circles, our neighborhoods. We turn to you. We ask you for that, Lord. And we pray especially for those that are struggling and suffering in their lives. Come close to them, Lord. Hear their cries and prayers. And intervene into their situations.
18. So, Lord, we do lift up this nation. And all the people that live here. May we see who you are. May we more and more gather together to lift up your name and worship you. We pray for all those that are gathering in different churches today. We pray that you may be there speaking to people. Touching people’s lives. Thank you for all that you do. Amen.
19. We will sing something together. We will also take up an offering. As we sing. And after that Sunday school, I don’t know who is teaching today. Yes. You follow that beautiful green dress. And you come to the right spot. Lord, we pray that you will bless the children today. Bless those that are teaching today. And bless the gifts that are brought to this house today. We pray that you will bless the children today. Amen.
20. So, let’s sing, let’s take up the offering. And after that, we will take communion together.
21. Yes, depending on how familiar you are with the Bible. I think most people know it’s divided in two parts. And we call it, in English it’s called the Old Testament and the New Testament. And that word, ‘diathiki’, or testament in English, or covenant.
22. It says something how important this covenant is, the concept of covenant. That it’s even given name to our holy Scriptures. And I think we’re all familiar with that God made a covenant with the people of Israel. And it’s a concept we don’t use very much in modern society. Maybe one of the ways we know it most in our society is marriage is a covenant.
23. And the covenant was a very solemn, serious, binding promise, that was made between God and the people. And it came with blessings, responsibilities, commitments, and what God promised in the covenant with his people.
24. When we read through the Old Testament, we see that God was always faithful. To keep his promises. The people were not. But God remained faithful. He always called his people back to himself.
25. A covenant was signed by cutting through an animal. And it symbolizes that this was an unbreakable bond between God and the people. And this was a symbol of how God related to humanity, to his people.
26. And with every covenant, there was a sacrifice and a meal shared together. And the people ate in the presence of God. In the Old Testament, we see how the prophets speak about a New Covenant. The problem with the Old Covenant was that the people strayed.
27. He would make a new, better covenant. And we know that was made through sending his son Jesus Christ. We know his body was broken. As the perfect lamb. His blood was poured out. He celebrated a meal with his disciples. And we’re going to see and hear that this was a covenant meal. And the amazing thing is that now we are invited to take part of that covenant meal.
28. To celebrate that we belong together with God. We are united with him. He is faithful. And he wants us to be faithful to him. He lives in us. We don’t just have a book of rules to follow. His spirit lives in us. So, we are celebrating this New Covenant today. And the invitation is open to all of us. No matter where you come from, who you are, where you’ve been. He invites us to his table.
29. Let’s read, from Luke 22:14-20, “When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
30. In the Old Covenant, there was an animal slaughtered, and the covenant was sealed by the people eating in the presence of God. In the New Covenant, God provides the perfect Lamb that was slaughtered, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. And today we can partake of this. Jesus says, ‘This is My body, and this is my blood.’
31. Let’s take this Covenant meal together, remembering what He has done, but celebrating that it is for us. People like us. He did it for us, He did it for you. Stavros can you please pray. I hope that it’s OK that you can come forward and take the bread and the cup. You can come on your own or you can come together with your friends, family. So please come.
Leto Karantoni – Main Message
1. Good morning. You may sit down. It is good to be in our Father’s house. And if you haven’t greeted somebody, now is the opportunity to say hello to them. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Leto, and I’m Evy, and I thank you very much that is translating for me. I know that it’s not easy to translate for someone. So, I thank Evy for that. God bless you. May God be with us, and may He be here with strength and power.
2. So, during these last few weeks we’ve been speaking about Christ, and we’ve been going through the alphabet and speaking about Him. And according to the English alphabet, we have reached W. And our theme for today is ‘The Way’, because we are W. And because we don’t have any PowerPoints today, you can open your Bibles. So, the Gospel of John 14:1-6. And I’d like you to read it all together in whichever language you like. I’d love to hear the whispering sound in my ears, and especially when it’s the Word of God.
3. John, 14:1-6. Are you ready? Okay. So, Let’s begin. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms. If that were not so, would I have told you that I’m going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going. Thomas said to him, Lord, we don’t know where you are going. So how can we know the way? Jesus answered,’ I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
4. In this passage, Jesus tells his disciples, ‘Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Don’t be scared.’ And the reason why he tells them this, if we read through the previous chapters, He was preparing them for the fact that he was going to suffer, he was going to be crucified and he would leave.
5. It was after he had washed their feet and he prophesied to them about betrayal, so their hearts were filled with fear and they were disturbed. And he said, ‘Don’t fret, don’t be fearful. I’m going, I’m taking the path, I’m going to my Father and there, there are many mansions, many homes and I’m going to go and hold one for you. And I’m going to come back and I’m going to take you with me so that you can be there where I am. And of course, Thomas, he was full of doubt. And I like the fact that Thomas had doubts.
6. It would be good for all of us to have doubts about God. And then to ask about all these doubts and saying, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you’re going, how will we know the way?’ He had the courage to say, Lord, tell me I don’t know where you’re going. That’s why I said I wish we were all like Thomas so that we could ask, so we could get answers to our questions.
7. Because Christ answered Thomas, he answered and he said, ‘Thomas, my disciples, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. If you know me, you know the way.’ He didn’t say some way, he didn’t say a particular way, he said I am the way, I am the road.
8. When the Roman Empire was at its peak, the Romans used to say that all roads lead to Rome, but Jesus here says, hang on. It’s not all roads, it’s not some of the roads, it’s not the large roads, it’s not the small roads, I am the way. And in Greek, the word street or road shows, it’s actually the word for journey as well.
9. It’s as if he was saying, I am the road on which you’ll take this journey. Which journey? He said, I am life. This is a journey that we walk on Jesus so that we can reach our destiny.
10. At one time I had a little magnet on my fridge which said, ‘So much did God love the world that he opened up his arms on the cross so that he was able to embrace the whole world.’ And that is a truth, but by opening up his arms and stretching out his body on the cross, he became the way that united heaven with the earth, joining man with God, without Christ, we would have had no restitution, we would have no salvation. We may be good people, we could do good deeds, and we may say kind words, but Christ said, ‘I am the way, I am the way.’ Salvation comes by no other person on the earth.
11. On the road that we walk, there are cross roads, there are traffic lights, there are shortcuts, but Christ says no, no, at the cross roads, you have to decide and follow the way. The cross road is not going to take you to heaven. At the traffic light, you can stop, after which you can continue on the road, on the way that is Christ. Christ leads to eternal life because he is life, in him there is life, and that is why he says, ‘I am.’
12. In these chapters I understood that Christ said, ‘I am the way, I am the road, I am the truth, I am the life.’ This huge ‘I Am’, emphasizes that He is God. In the Old Testament God, presents himself, He reveals himself by saying, ‘I am, my name is I am.’ And this is what Christ uses here.
13. On this path, on this road, sometimes it narrows, sometimes it’s got ditches. Sometimes we slip and fall. It’s not always wide. In the Bible it says, “Narrow is the way, narrow is the path to heaven.” (Matthew 7:14) Many people, when we talk about the way, we believe that this road is always going to be easy for us.
14. But this road, hides, battles, challenges, even sacrifices. And sometimes these battles are very difficult. They cause us to fall, but when we look ahead, when we look to see where our destination is, when we know where this road leads us, when the arrows show that the sign says, eternal life. In that moment, when we say, Lord, listen to my prayer, we get up from where we’ve fallen, we may have wounded knees.
15. Our hearts may be in pain. We can be disappointed. We could even have blood running from our wounds. But when we put one foot ahead of the other, and we decide, we make the decision, and we say, ‘Lord, you are the way. And I want to walk on you, as you are stretched out, and you are a bridge for me to walk on. I want to walk. I want to walk from this place to come to the next place. Lord, I can’t do it on my own. But Lord, you are here with me, you are present.
16. You are the truth. You said you would never leave me. You would never forsake me, not even for a minute. And I believe this is the truth. Because Lord, you are the truth. You are life. And you give me life. And you speak truth to me. We may have been hurt on this road. Perhaps the sacrifice that you have given, it may be very heavy for you. But this road has grace and mercy. It’s called a grace and mercy.
17. The presence of God comes, and it brings us provision of the things we need. And when it provides, the seal that goes on this, says grace, mercy, and strength so that you can manage. The road of the way of Christ is not an easy road. But it is a road that together with His grace we are able to walk. And do you know where this road takes us? This road takes us to heaven, to the Father.
18. This road is a road that is full of fruit. Christ said, ‘I am the vine, and you are the branches. And if you concentrate on me, that which you bring will be a lot of good fruit.’ I don’t know how much I can stay attached to this road. But the thing that I know, that I want to walk on this road. And if possible, I want to reach the other side with lots of fruit in my arms for His Kingdom, so that I may put it before His feet, so that I may say, Lord, these are Yours, because on You, from You I could get food and water, and thus I was able to bring the fruit that You asked for, because you wanted it.
19. The Lord said, I am sending You to bring in the fruit, and Your fruit will remain. This road, Christ, is peace, because Christ is peace. No matter how many problems and difficulties you may have, no matter how high the waves are in your life, He can stand and say, ‘Peace be still,’ not the peace of the world, but my peace. This is what I give to you, and He can do it, because He is peace. On this road, there is love.
20. Many times, I think. And I say, Lord, our love is really nothing. And it’s true. But when we walk on this road, there’s like a change in us, a metamorphosis in us. Christ is the road of change, of metamorphosis. He changes us. He transforms us, so that we can become like Christ, so that we may become like Him, and growing and changing, and looking more and more like Jesus. His love becomes our love also.
21. I told you about the magnet that I have on my fridge. So much did God love this world that He gave His Son so that nobody may be lost. Lord, walking on Your way, help me to have so much love for the world that I may sacrifice things for Your love. Hallelujah. Thank You, Lord, yes, amen.
22. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Jesus is the only way for us to come to know God. He’s the only road enabling us to avoid sin. He’s the only way for us to avoid death. He didn’t only die on the cross, but He was resurrected. He was resurrected so that we may have the hope of eternal life. This road is the road of life, fruitfulness, and it is the road that we are required to walk on to reach our end path, our end goal. Amen, hallelujah, amen, hallelujah.
23. His blood continues to run from Calvary even today, and when it covers us, it makes us feel peace and calm. Hallelujah. And when we walk on this path, which is called Jesus Christ, the sign says Jesus Christ Street.
24. Our life on earth becomes richer, it becomes more blessed, and our cup runs over from the love of God. All we have to do is walk on this road. You may be going through difficulties today. Today you may be at some crossroad. You may be having to decide whether you’re going to go ahead or whether you’re going to go back today.
25. And because today there’s so many voices around us. We hear many voices around us. They encourage us to do things to believe in ourselves. You can do everything by yourself. You can move the people; you can become prime minister. Why are you standing? Are you stupid? It is time for us to block our ears. It is time for us to not listen to the words of the world. And to listen to someone who stands and says, ‘I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life. No one can come to the Father but by me, through me.’
26. No other name, except mine can bring salvation. No other name, no other way, no other small path, no other avenue, leads to eternal life, except ‘I’. ‘I am, I am the truth, and the life, and rest, and when you arrive up there, where I have already prepared a place for you, I have reserved the wonderful rooms for you to live in, the brightest city that exists.’
27. Look, there will be no pain, there will be no sadness, there will be no separation, there will be no more sadness, there will be no more accusation. But there will be joy, peace, rest, praise, worship and we will walk and move with Him.
28. And if Jesus is the Way, and if Christ is the truth, and if Jesus is the life, you sitting here today, and are going through your own crossroad. Why are you still standing there? The signpost writes, ‘Jesus Road’. Destination, heaven. Eternal life. Amen.
29. May God bless you all. And I stand here and say to you, you may stand up with me if you would like. A little while ago, we had Holy Communion, let us remember we had Holy Communion, to remember Him, and never to forget Him. That table of the Holy Communion, is the perfect picture of God’s love. ‘I go to prepare a place for you, to prepare for you a mansion, and I will come to receive you to myself. All together.’ Maranatha Lord. Jesus is the way, the only way.
Billy Hellmark – Altar call for Prayer
30. Amen. As we will sing a song together, and I would like to invite you to respond to what we’ve heard. If you believe that yes, Jesus is the way, but maybe you haven’t really taken the steps to follow. I would like to invite the prayer team to come up here and you can come up and they will pray with you.
31. But maybe you have started on the way, but you’re struggling in your work. You can also receive prayer today. It is a walk we have to do, and we are called to follow Him who is the way. So, whether you want to start on that journey with Jesus, or you just need encouragement, strength to continue, please come to the front and there will be some people praying with you.
