Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.” Hallelujah. And the last verse there it says, “Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord.” Amen. Let’s all stand up together and let’s worship the Lord.

May the peoples praise you God.” May we in Glyfada praise you. Lord, may I praise you. “May the peoples praise you God. May all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy. For you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you God. May all the peoples praise you. May the land yield its harvest. God, our God blesses us. And may God bless us still so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.” Amen.
5. Lord, we bless you. We praise you. And we welcome the Holy Spirit to be here with us to take control that he may lead us into all truth and may our hearts open so that we will praise you and worship you, and lift you up. Amen. Let’s praise the Lord.

Eric Demeter – Main Message
14. Good morning church. It’s good to be with you today I know most of you but I’m Eric Demeter and I’ve been attending here for about 5 or 6 years. Happy to be sharing with you today. We have been on a series talking about a Biblical Worldview and how to develop a Biblical Worldview.
15. We all get excited when there’s a new baby right, we’re all touching you know his or her little toes, their little fingers, pinching the cheeks even though I don’t know if you’re supposed to do that or not. But you are looking at the little child thinking does it look like mom or dad or maybe grandma and grandpa.
16. New births are a joyous time. So, we only have one physical birth, but we do have a second birth. We have a spiritual birth. When you become a Christian, what you’re essentially saying is, ‘I was born again’ and all of us who have experienced this spiritual birth we remember that time. Sometimes we call it the ‘new birth’, other times we say that ‘I gave my heart to Jesus.’ Other times someone might say that, ‘I got saved on such and such date.’ However, you said it, you were reborn in Christ.
17. What we’re talking about today is Biblical Worldview and how the new birth goes into that. When we have the new birth, we’re actually able to see things how God sees them. The new birth gives us the eyes to see things as God sees them. People, circumstances, the world, everything is seen through the eyes of your new birth.
18. We all know the story of Nicodemus he was one of the Pharisees. Normally we start the story of Nicodemus in John 3 but that’s not actually where it starts. It starts at the end of chapter 2. So just keep in mind that the chapters in Scripture were added much, much later and sometimes we have to sometimes the chapters don’t do a good job of dividing it where it should be. Let’s look at John 2:23-25. Remember this is the story of Jesus and Nicodemus. “Now while he, (Jesus), was in Jerusalem at the Passover festival many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people he did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person”.
19. So, Nicodemus was one of these people in this crowd, and what hit me about this passage is that many people saw the signs and the wonders but Jesus didn’t trust them. These people had a partial faith. They kind of believed. They were in it for the oohs and the aahs of the signs and wonders. I didn’t see you do oohs and aahs, oohs and aahs. Maybe they were there for the free food or whatever else was going on there.
20. It’s interesting that not every kind of belief is the kind that is a new birth kind and Jesus didn’t trust them or you could say Jesus didn’t believe their believing. So, this sets the stage for Nicodemus to talk to Jesus. And now he comes to him as one who ‘kind of believes.’
21. John 3:1-8 “Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council he came to Jesus at night and said, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God for no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
22. So, Nicodemus was a member of the exclusive 70, the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin was the top Jewish court. So, he compliments Jesus and he says, we know that you are a teacher who is from God or God is with you, and Nicodemus though has no clue that Jesus is divine. Next verse, “Jesus says to him, very truly I tell you no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” Nicodemus didn’t even ask a question, but Jesus knew what was in his heart and what Nicodemus was trying to uncover.
23. You can picture Nicodemus rolling around in his mind, who are you, how are you doing these miracles, what authority do you have to do these signs and wonders, and Jesus is saying, you won’t know who I am unless you are born again. Nicodemus doesn’t get it, we go to the next verse and he says, “How can someone be born when they are old? Nicodemus asks, surely, they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born. Jesus answered, very truly I tell you no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at me saying you must be born again. The wind blows where it pleases, you hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it’s going, so it is with everyone born of the spirit.”
24. A spiritual person requires a spiritual birth. If you want to see things the way God sees them, you see them with His eyes, spiritual eyes, which requires the new birth, and all this talk about the wind blowing wherever it pleases he’s telling Nicodemus, you can’t control the Spirit of God. The Pharisees were so used to following the Law and the Torah, they were used to controlling things.
25. The Spirit does what it pleases. It’s a gift. You can’t control it. You only receive it. So, what exactly is this new birth? It’s an event. It starts this life long process of being like Jesus, but at some point in your life, and maybe you can think of this point, maybe you were young, maybe you were older but there’s a point when you come to Christ. You recognize Jesus as the Son of God. That He paid the price for your sins.
26. And that you repent and you commit your life to Him. It’s something that you participate in, but it’s not really about you at all. Again, this is a gift that you receive. This new life is a gift. The only thing you can do is make yourself available to it. This is a gift that you receive from God.
27. 1 Peter 1:3-4 Peter writes, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in His great mercy. He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.”
28. When you accept this gift of this new birth, you not only see the Kingdom of God, but you enter into it. And this starts a lifelong relationship that you have with the Father through His Son Jesus. And through the power of the Holy Spirit.
29. So, what’s your story about your new birth? I had a new birth when I was 21 years old. I knew God and I went to church sometimes. And I just remember being on spring break once in Florida at the beach. I was in college and this other college group was doing evangelism on the beach. And they came up to my friend and I. And they were asking questions like, are you saved? Are you born again? And I mumbled some answer ‘like I went to church or something.’
30. But I just saw how much fun they were having. And how bold they were in their faith. And they had something that I wanted. But for me, so I was praying to God for several months. And I knew God wanted me to give myself to Him and have a new birth. But I was afraid because I stuttered in my speech. I still do from time to time. And I knew God wanted me to speak for Him.
31. Now keep in mind, public speaking is the number one fear of normal speakers. Death is actually number two. So, for me, public speaking, I was so afraid of it. But I knew, if I committed my life to Christ, that I would speak for Him. So, after many months of wrestling with God, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. And part of my testimony is I’m up here speaking to you today. Praise God.
32. So, the new birth means everything. I had to change not only how I saw the world but how I saw myself. And having a Biblical Worldview means that God is with you and He will help you. So, there’s no reason to be afraid because whatever you are going through or will go through, God will be with you.
33. To have a Biblical Worldview though, it’s not a pair of glasses that you put on. You don’t take them on and off. Your Biblical Worldview is who you are. Everything we see, everything we experience, everyone we meet, we see them as God sees them. Or we try, we try. And it’s a lifelong process. But how your eyes get open to who God really is when we have a new birth.
34. It’s like watching a black and white TV, that it changes to color. Do we have a video clip? I’m not sure. I got a video clip. Have you all seen the Wizard of Oz? It’s from the 1950s. And the first part of the film is in this sepia color. So, it’s just very dry, very dark, very plain. But then when she goes to Oz, it’s like, aah. Is this going to work or is it going to, we try it. Let’s see what happens.
35. We may have to watch a commercial. So, this is the first part of the movie. Her house is in a tornado and it lands. And she has her little dog, Toto. She opens her door to Oz. So that’s it. But that’s a little way to see how our eyes get open when we have a new birth.
36. And to see things how God sees them, we’re seeing reality. You see that God is your father. He loves you. You see that he has a plan for your life. Now you see that he knows what’s best for you. You see that God seeks the lost. You see that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. And no one comes to the father except through him.
37. You see that marriage is between a man and a woman. You see that there are only two genders, male and female. See that God values life, all life, whether unborn or born. You see that everyone, no matter who they are, is made in the image of God. You see that we are to love our enemies.
38. No stone gets unturned in your life when there’s a new birth. Like every part of your life gets touched by the new birth. The thing with becoming a Christian sometimes is that if you’ve been Christian for a long time, it’s easy to get into a rut. It’s easy just to keep going on cruise control on your car. But if you’re in his Word regularly, he should always be surprising you.
39. So, the times I read Scripture and I’m shocked is all the time. Just the fact that we’re to love our enemies. Pray for those who persecute us. How many times should we forgive? 70 times 7. He says the last shall be first. He says if you want to live, then you must lose your life. He says if you want to lead, you must serve. Everything in our faith is different than the world.
40. And most of the time when Jesus was correcting his disciples, he was correcting how they saw things. He says you’re seeing the situation through your flesh, not through spiritual eyes. When the disciples and Jesus are out to sea and there’s the storm, they’re freaking out. And he looks at them and says why are you afraid? They didn’t know who was with them. They hadn’t seen Jesus for how Jesus truly is.
41. They didn’t know who Jesus really was. Because if they knew who Jesus was, they wouldn’t be afraid. So, this is a process, this is a lifelong discipleship process. And one of my favorite verses is 2 Peter 3:18. He says, “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory now and forever. Amen.”
42. So, as a new believer, you are like a new baby. But that baby grows. And like that we grow up into a mature faith. And one more verse, Cecilia. Philippians 1:6. “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.” So, God began the work and God will complete it in you.
43. Let me leave you with this. How do we grow in our faith? What are some different ways? We can pray, we can go to church, we can fast, we can serve, we can read the Bible. There are many ways that we can grow. But do you know the number one way to grow according to one study? There are some researchers who surveyed thousands and thousands of Christians.
44. And they looked at the ones that were thriving. And do you know what they were doing? The number one thing? Reading their Bibles. But here’s what they found. How many times a week, and this was a key part of the study. How many times a week did the thriving Christians who were in the Bible have to read it per week? So, there’s at least once and up to seven, right?
45. So, let’s take a vote. How many times a week did they find you had to read your Bible to have real benefits? Now, keep in mind that they did not measure time, but that you reflected on the Word, that you read it, you reflected on it, and that you shared it with someone. It wasn’t just a quick read, you interacted with the text.
46. Okay, so how many times a week was it? Who says one? One good solid time with Scripture. I mean, I read the whole book, let’s say you read the whole book one day. You didn’t say one? Okay, who says only one solid time? Okay, who says twice? Now, once is not enough, at least Mondays and Fridays. Who says two? No one says two?
47. No, I don’t know yet, we don’t know yet. Three. Three times, okay, got three, got one. Any more says three. I mean, it may not be seven, I’m just letting you know. But who says three? Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
48. Okay, who says four? Four good times. One, zero. Who says five? That’s five times a week. Six. Six, one on six? I feel like I’m doing an auction, auctioning. Seven, seven, every day. The answer is four. Four. So that should encourage you seven day a weekers. Good job. So, four was the minimum.
49. Seven’s actually better than four. But in order to have any meaningful effect on your life, you had to be in the Word four times a week. But what was fascinating about days one through three, that if you’re only reading the Bible one, two or three times a week, it had zero effect. Not even a little bit. I mean, at three, you kind of see a little, like a little blip. But four, four goes way up.
50. So, here’s what happened when people were engaged in a serious way with the Bible four times a week. Substance abuse and alcoholism went down by 57 percent. Bitterness in relationships down 40 percent. Viewing of pornography down by 61 percent. Anger issues down 32 percent. Feeling lonely down 30 percent. People who are in the Word four times a week are 407 percent more likely to memorize Scripture.
51. There are 231 percent more likely to disciple others. There are 228 percent more likely to share their faith. Doesn’t this excite you to be in the Word of God? How many times a week at least? Minimal.
52. So, the question for today is, are you born again? Have you experienced this new birth? If you have, are you in the Word of God? Which gives us the Biblical Worldview. We’ll always be aligning ourselves with how God sees things. You know, back in the 80s and 90s there was the W.W.J.D. What would Jesus do? How do we know? Because we know what Jesus would do from his Word.
53. So, if you have experienced this new birth, I just challenge you to keep going, keep growing in Christ. Maybe you’ve kind of fallen away a bit and you want to recommit yourself to the Lord today. Maybe you have not experienced this new birth yet. Well, let today be the day that you receive this free gift.
54. So, let’s have the prayer team come up front. And whatever is on your heart today, feel free to come forward and feel free to get prayer for anything that you need. This is your family. Whether this is your first or your thousandth time here.
55. Let me pray. Father in heaven, thank you so much, Jesus, for you. Thank you for your son. Thank you, Lord, that you’re always extending this gift to us. Father, that you are drawing all people to you through your son, Jesus Christ. I pray we seek you in all things. You help us grow in you. You help us share about you, Lord, because we received this gift, but we need to share this gift, the most amazing gift, Lord, of your son, Jesus. So, thank you, Father, for what you’re doing. I pray for all the needs here, physical needs, spiritual needs, people struggling in relationships, whatever is going on, Father, that you meet us at our greatest point of need.
56. Thank you, Father, for your son. In his name I pray, amen. Feel free to come forward.
