Biblical Worldview – Holy Spirit Power
Pastor Gail – Welcome
1. I will tell you too, we want you to be comfortable, if you don’t want to stand when I invite you to stand, you don’t have to stand. The most important thing is that our heart, that we bring our heart and our lives to the Lord. Amen. To worship Him. Honestly, sometimes, when I stand up here the whole service, I’m ready to sit down.
2. Please, I was thinking about that, we’re the family of God. The most important thing is that we get to worship Him together. Amen. Lord, we worship you. Your name, O Father. Your name, Jesus. O Holy Spirit of God, the name of God is the highest.
Pastor Gail – Reading the Word
3. You may be seated for me. The message for today, for God to give us a Godly worldview. It’s about knowing the power of God, but God is power. It’s about knowing the power of God, but God is power.
4. In this way, there’s one of my morning adventures. This is a Scripture we need today from Revelation 5. And if you need a Bible there’s one on the back of each chair. We’ll start from verse 7. Revelation 5:7-10, and this is the Lamb of God which is Jesus will have a scroll in his hand.
5. “He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song. You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals. Because you were slain and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God and they will reign on the earth.”
6. As I was thinking about this morning and the Word that Pastor Brian will be preaching today. Yesterday I began to think about our prayers being like incense. And our prayers are in these golden bowls. And we all know incense kind of just wafts up towards the sky.
7. Incense is evidently very precious to God. It has a pleasant smell. And it says also our prayers are there. And all we want to say this morning as we present this to you and the Word of God. I believe the Lord wants us to know how powerful prayer is.
8. We see here in the book of Revelation; prayer is going to begin to set all the end times things in motion. Prayer is more powerful, mightier than anything else we can do in our own way.
9. So where are you at right now? Can I invite you just however you would like; whatever need you have from the Lord this morning, that you will tell Him if you know Him. I believe. I know you’re all powerful. And I want to place it in your hands today, God.
10. And if you don’t know Him today, you could tell Him. I would like to invite you into my life to know the power that only you have. Would you just pray with me right now? And feel free to pray out loud.
11. Father in the name of Jesus, we thank You that we know Your name. Your name is all glorious. It’s everything we need. Lord, Father God, You are more than enough. Lord, You are always present and You always hear. So, Lord, today we come before You. We tell you and we believe You are the God that heals. So, Lord, if anyone needs healing or they’re praying for someone in the name of Jesus, we thank You before we see it for healing. Amen. Lord, any economic need, Lord, we give it to You in the name of Jesus. And then Lord, I would ask You that You will just unite our hearts with cords of love. That we will become that people that believe with You, nothing is impossible. So, we thank You, Lord, that Your every answer that we will ever give, that is who You are. In the name of Jesus.
12. This morning we have something a little special. We don’t do this all the time. But we have a testimony that I want you to hear today. So, I’m going to invite Kata to come forward this morning and share.
Kata – Testimony
13. Good morning. I’m Kata from Germany. Some people know me, some not. We are here. Sorry, I’m so quick. We are a missionary family here. Working with refugees and with Roma work in Petaluda. And last week we had the topic obedience and partial obedience, is no obedience.
14. And the Lord reminds me of one testimony I can give to you. So, when we got married, the plan was to have no kids. We have several reasons, or I had several reasons for it. And my husband said for him it’s both fine, without kids or with kids.
15. When we got married, I asked the Lord, I was working as a nurse for 17 years in a free shift system. I’m older than I look. But I have a Jesus age. So, I asked the Lord, because we had now two salaries. I asked the Lord; I really need to exit out of this job. This job is really tiring me and exhausting me. Like an exit, get out of the job.
16. So, my idea was to do a kind of free sabbatical months or reduce my job to just 50% or something like that. But the Lord’s answer was, donate to the church your whole salary. This was not the answer I wanted to have. And it took me a big, big step, big effort, big, I don’t know. It took me a while to get to the point to say yes, Lord.
17. So, I ended up donating my salary for the next one and a half years to the church. And sometimes I was mad on the Lord because I was expecting that he is doing something. I spent my salary, hello, Lord, where are you in this? But the Lord did a great thing this time. Sometimes when we are obedient, we don’t see the result immediately. We don’t see the blessing immediately.
18. It took us more than a year because what happened in between, the Lord convinced me to have kids. So, we said, the Lord changed really my heart. I really want kids to that point. It was the process of some months. So, we tried it, but of course it didn’t happen.
19. Then at some point I went to the gynecologist for a normal checkup, not checking on getting babies or not or getting pregnant. Just for a normal checkup. And she said, oh, you’re 35. I think you need to have kids. I said, yeah, we try, but it didn’t happen yet. But I’m not in a rush. I’m old, but the Lord said, kids.
20. So, she said, okay, let’s do an ultrasound. And she said, no, no, this is not going to work. This is not going to work without medical help. It looks not nice. All the things you need to have a baby to get sitting in your uterus and all this stuff that the body needs to produce and whatever was not there. And I was crying.
21. So, you can imagine what it meant for me, what it makes to me, that I was crying. I was really feeling helpless and desperate. But we have a crazy Lord. In the same week, then I got the message that I can’t easily get pregnant. My sister-in-law, my sister told us that she’s pregnant with a second boy that makes the pain deeper.
22. But the Lord is also doing medicals, like you see. I got pregnant in the same cycle, in the same month. And both kids, like my sister’s baby and Ola. We are twin cousins. We were born on the same day in the same hospital. He was six weeks premature, that’s why it worked out. But they are twin cousins.
23. So, what I really have on my heart, try to just trust the Lord and be obedient. Even when you don’t see the results in the next month or whatever, trust the Lord that he is really good and he loves you. And that’s why I’m here today to give you the message that God is with you.
Pastor Gail
24. Amen, amen, amen, amen. What is God? Is somebody you may not know Ola? I want to meet you. I need you to babies. No way, no babies anymore. The doctor said that she couldn’t have a look. His second name is Yaron and it means he is jumping off joy.
25. And he’s really doing that. So, you know, of course I wish everybody would give their salary to the church. But right now, I just pray a blessing on this family. And God will bless all they do, and God will cause these children to be mighty servants of God. Amen, amen.
26. Will you stretch out your hands? Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus, we thank you Lord for Kata, and Michael, we thank you for Heidi and Ola. We thank you for the children, Lord, even as they go to children’s ministry, oh God to fall in love with you and be mighty Lord, servants of the almighty God. We pray that you will bless Michael and Kata, in every way, for their obedience, God. Lord, open doors that no man can open. Close those that are not of you. In the name of Jesus, glory to God, amen.
27. Let’s praise the Lord as Brian you get ready for the word.
Pastor Brian – Main Message
1. Good morning, everybody. I think you look good. Let me see. I always have this problem. I can’t see my notes without my glasses. I can’t see you with them. To all the visitors, we welcome you. I want to say a special welcome to a very dear friend. Our brother, Christie, from Cyprus.
2. He’s special to us not just because of himself, but because his mother was so special to us. The day that Martha moved back to Cyprus was a sad day for me. But she stayed connected with us, with this church, right to the end. We’ll say it this way. Right to the beginning.
3. If I don’t know you, I welcome you. If I do know you, I welcome you. And we’re just thankful for everybody that’s here. We’re mostly thankful because the Lord is here. The Trudy doesn’t count. I didn’t even see you come in. Welcome, Trudy. Trudy’s with us from the island. Where she so mistakenly moved away to. Teach her some.
4. Today, our theme is power. As we work our way through our English alphabet. And we’re talking about having a Biblical Worldview. Part of that is understanding that our God is powerful. We just sang it. His name is power. His name is life. And we rejoice in the relationship that we have with an all-powerful God.
5. So, we’re going to talk just a short time about spirit-empowered living. It’s not just a theological concept. It’s not just an idea. It’s supposed to be the normal Christian life. Remember, before Jesus ascended into heaven, I think we’re all familiar with this Scripture, “He said, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
6. We actually made this Scripture, the password on our Wi-Fi. And anybody who needs it, find the Guest Account. It’s Acts, A-C-T-S-1, the number one, A-N-D-8. Because you shall receive power, when the Wi-Fi is available to you.
7. You shall receive power when the Spirit comes on you. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live beyond our natural abilities. We emphasize a living relationship with the Holy Spirit in this church. Because it is that that takes us beyond ourselves and lets God be at work in our lives. We cannot consistently walk in holiness without a relationship with the Holy Spirit. You can’t properly love your enemies without Him being at work in and through you. And you will never fulfill all of God’s purposes for your life without that relationship. Because it is the presence and power of the Holy Spirit that takes us to those places.
8. Our strength alone will never do the job. But He provides strength. He provides wisdom. He provides the grace that is necessary for us to live well. And to live a life that honors the Lord. Paul teaches us in Galatians 5:16. He says, “Walk in the Spirit and you will not gratify, you won’t fulfill the lust of your flesh.”
9. The mind and the flesh want to do wrong. But there is an ability to walk in God because of Holy Spirit. This involves both the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, love, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness. These are the fruit of the Spirit. They are not the fruit of your own life. They are made alive in you because of the Holy Spirit.
10. But He even takes us beyond the fruit. And He gives us the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit reveals His character in us. But the gifts reveal His ministry through us. Words of wisdom. Being able to speak something that is not of your own knowledge. Manifestation of miracles. The gifts that allow God to do through you, what you can’t do yourself.
11. Have you ever prayed for somebody and all of a sudden just understood, something that wasn’t your own knowledge? Have you ever had a conversation with somebody and all of a sudden you just speaking wisdom that you didn’t know you had? Have you ever put your hand on somebody and prayed for them and see them healed? Have you ever prayed for a miracle and see it happen?
12. These are not ideas; these are things that exist for us. Prophecy. Miracles. He does these things today. And they are available to us. But not if we are not pursuing them. If we are not in that relationship with the Holy Spirit, if we’re not having that conversation, then we’re leaving ourselves empty of so much of our Christian life that is possible.
13. So often we live, weak. We live in doubt, we live in distress. Sometimes we live content in our problems, we become okay with it. Because we’re not finding what we have in us. Paul commands us in Ephesians 5:18 and I’ll just speak it, you don’t have to turn. This is the one that starts out, “Don’t get drunk with wine. Because that leads you to bad things.” The English word is debauchery, it leads you into things you shouldn’t be doing.
14. So, Paul says don’t do that. He says, “but do be drunk with the Holy Spirit. Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with songs, with hymns, with spiritual songs, songs from the Spirit.” Have you ever just been in worship and just a song comes?
15. Maybe it’s just a word. Maybe it’s Victor repeating a line. Maybe it’s something that encourages your spirit. But maybe it’s something that encourages the person next to you. This is life in the Spirit. It’s not an empty existence.
16. And in this passage by the way, do a little Greek lesson this morning, Greek grammar. When it says be filled with the Spirit, it’s in the present tense. But it’s actually called present imperative tense. It doesn’t matter. What it literally means is it’s not a one-time event. It means be filled and continue being filled. It’s a constant ongoing action. Be filled and be filled again. Or keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit.
17. Never become content without pressing to the next place. But it’s also in that Scripture, it’s in the passive voice. What that means is you can’t do it. It means you cannot fill yourself. You cannot fill yourself with the presence of the Holy Spirit. You cannot fill yourself with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But it’s a work that he has to do in you.
18. So, the emphasis isn’t fill yourselves with the Spirit, it’s let yourself be filled by the Spirit. That means two things. It’s from him, but you have to allow it to come from him. You have to seek that relationship.
19. And then the third thing about it is that it’s not a suggestion. It’s a command. Be filled and continue being filled. Continue letting yourself be filled. Continue approaching the Holy Spirit so that he has that freedom to be with you and in you. As we pray, we worship, we read Scriptures, we give ourselves, we yield daily to God. It allows room for the Holy Spirit to come and renew and strengthen and empower.
20. And this isn’t just important for us as individuals. But it’s important because Jesus said, “This is what makes you my witnesses.” The Holy Spirit will fill you and you will be my witnesses. The world does not need powerless Christianity.
21. The world does not need a set of beliefs. The world doesn’t need a list of laws that come from a religious book. What the world needs is to see the life of Christ in us. It needs believers who demonstrate the true love of Christ. And who demonstrate the power of God.
22. Pastor Gail says often, miracles should not be something that we just see happen every now and then, occasionally. Miracles is a big word. But literally, what the people around us need to see are miracle-infused lives. They need to see Stavros with the joy of the Lord, with the goodness and kindness of the Lord. With the determination, with the purpose, with all of these things that we talk about so often that fill our lives, possibly, but so often seem to be far from us.
23. I’m struggling with something. I have allergies that bother me all the time. And today was an example. I woke up. I could barely breathe. It was hard for me to sing.
24. I had to get Pastor Gail’s breathalyzer, what’s that called, inhaler. And try to get something in me. But what bothers me is that I don’t see the healing that I want to see. I don’t know why. I pray for it. Other people pray for it. I still expect it. I don’t know when that will be, but I expect it.
25. But I think things like that should be far less among us. Because we should see those miracles. We should see people doing well in their jobs because they have divine wisdom. We should see among us when prayer time comes that people are impacted because somebody has a word to speak to them.
26. Something that comes direct from the heart of God. Our worship should be full. Our joy should be high. Our love should be evident. And it should exist to the point that people want to be a part of it. Not because it’s us, but because God’s people are living as God’s people. Because we’re allowing our relationship with the Holy Spirit to be evident among us.
27. I don’t know what those words actually mean to you. When we talk of having a relationship with the Holy Spirit, but I can tell you what it means to me. It means having conversation with Him. It means including Him in my decisions and my desires. It means that I don’t treat Him as an idea or as a force. But I treat Him as the person He is. That I intentionally invite Him into my life.
28. I intentionally invite Him into my life. I wonder when’s the last time you prayed? Fill me again. Fill me again. Maybe it’s fill me for the first time. Maybe that’s a conversation you’ve never actually had. But I know this. He desires you. He desires you.
29. He wants to fill you. And fill you again. And fill you again. Because that’s who He is. He wants that energetic, life-giving Spirit. He wants it to be our character when we come together. And He wants it to be our character when we walk out those gates.
30. I had a desire when I was putting this together. That I want to see a genuine move of the Holy Spirit. Today would have been a good day. Could still be. But I was thinking, I think it was on Friday. I don’t know what the difference is in different periods of time, but I grew up in churches where we often had healings. We often had words of prophecy.
31. When I was growing up, I didn’t know there were churches that didn’t experience that or we thought they weren’t actually churches and Christians. I thought about the demons I saw cast out of people. For real, not stories, for real.
32. I remember times we just saw miraculous things happen. I once saw a one-legged man get so happy that he jumped up on the back of the chairs and ran row by row to the back of the room. I was a kid, so I thought it was funny. It wasn’t just that he got happy and did something, he was actually delivered that night from another condition.
33. I remember being in a youth camp, when I was about 19 years old. And you know how the Bible says it, “On the day of Pentecost, He came like a rushing wind.” I remember the preacher, finished preaching, and before he could even pray for anybody, all the kids started falling over, from one side of the building to the other.
34. We prayed for about 8 hours that night. And Pastor Gail can tell you that this is a true story; this happened. The fire department was called out to the campground, because the people around, saw the building on fire. It was no fire, but there was fire.
35. I remember praying for a Japanese woman right here. She came to Greece to get special cancer treatment. And I remember, we laid hands on her, and she fell to the ground. And she home healed. Stayed in touched with us for many years.
36. I haven’t seen anything like that in a long time. I’ve been in some really, really good conferences and maybe seen some things, but it’s too rare, but what is so sad about it being so rare, is that it so available. I don’t know what makes the difference. I don’t pray less now than I did then. I don’t believe less of any of it than I did then. But I’m not seeing it in my life, the way that I want to.
37. And I’m not seeing it in your life, the way I want to. Waiting for the day, Victor, when the Lord gives you a new song right here. And who knows, it may not even be in English, or Greek, or Danish or whatever mixed up stuff you have in you.
38. It might be in tongues. I still believe in tongues. I believe in the interpretation of tongues. I was in a service one time, that a guy started speaking and a person on the other side of the room understood exactly what he was saying, because it was in his language. This person did not speak that language, but that night he did. And somebody received from the Lord what they needed.
39. I miss services sometimes, and for some of us it would be weird, but when we hear somebody speak out in tongues, and somebody would interpret it. And to be honest with you, sometimes I didn’t think it was very real, because in my church, the interpretation always came from the same person and it was always the same. Which was OK, it was never discouraging, but sometimes, the message would come and the interpretation would come and it would be God. And somebody, if not everybody would hear something that they needed to hear.
40. I miss prophecy; true prophecy. And I want it to here in our church. I want it to be in every church. But I at least want us to experience the life of the Holy Spirit. But remember it’s not just those things I just talked about, it’s also genuine love, genuine joy; genuine peace; genuine patience. The ability to suffer without suffering. Doesn’t that sound strange?
41. But there is an ability, the Bible says, to have peace that is beyond any understanding (Philippians 4:7). It’s being truly gentle with each other. It’s doing genuine good things, because that’s who He is.
42. And so, I wonder, when is the last time we prayed for that? When is the last time I prayed, ‘Fill me again?’ I did it preparing for this sermon because I was preparing for this sermon. But too many other seasons of life go by, without me just stopping to say, ‘Holy Spirit, fill me again. And again, and then again.’ Because, I have got a reason to praise. ‘Praise the Lord oh my soul.’ (Psalm 103 & 146)
43. I don’t know what you want to do with this, I don’t necessarily feel like asking for an altar response. I prayed for that.
Pastor Gail – Prayer call
44. If you’re here today, all of you, maybe you may not even completely understand this, you never really thought about the Holy Spirit being active today, except in salvation. But one thing I’d like to leave with you.
45. But those of us that follow Jesus, we don’t look like the world. We’re a little different. We’re a little different. Even Paul said, “Let’s be fools for Christ’s sake.” (1 Corinthians 4:10) And sometimes, I just want to say this in this room this morning. We have to trust one another to make mistakes.
46. We’re human. We won’t always hear the Holy Spirit perfectly. But let’s begin to be brave. And let’s begin to try to obey Him. And if you missed it, say, I’m sorry. But I want to follow Jesus. I want to be led by the Holy Spirit. And there’s protection in the family of God. We’ll help one another when we don’t do it perfectly.
47. Leto come forward. Trudy’s here praying. If you’re here this morning and you would like a renewal or to understand the Holy Spirit in a fresh new way, the Lord is here today. And we’ll pray with you this morning. The Lord wants to do great and mighty things in a fresh new way. So, we invite you to come forward. God wants to move in our midst. Let’s trust Him today. Let it begin with prayer.
48. This week someone called me and said the Lord has a message for you. He misses you; He misses you. And I have, honestly, Brian knows he comes up, but he sees me in my apartment every day. Every day. I have probably an hour-long time of just reading the Word. And then there was another word. There’s too much noise in your life. And I’m thinking this morning for all of us. It’s like the devotion, the Scripture we read, the Lord is waiting to receive our prayers.
49. They’re incense before His throne. This morning He has visited us. I believe He’s been visiting for a long time. But He wants, He’s waiting for us really. Because He loves us. Isn’t that amazing? He loves us so much. He is so patient with us. He visits us. We’ve been too busy to really spend time with Him, but He still comes.
50. I think today the Lord is saying, this is just a taste. It’s just a little bite. Just a little bite. He wants to overflow. And you don’t think you have time, but guess what? You have more time than you know if you put God first. We will see God do miracles like we’ve never seen. We will see the prodigals come home. Thank you. Come home.
51. We’ll see healings much more. We’ll see our financial needs met. We’ll see jobs. Amen. I want this before we leave right now. I know, and I don’t want to embarrass anybody, but I know there’s several people. Fernando is begging for a job. He’s in a very, very difficult situation. I know Igor needs a job.
52. I know Sarah needs a job. Who needs a job this morning? Is there someone? Sarah needs a job this morning. Laura, I think you want a job when you graduate, yes? Just stay in Greece. That’s a little thing for God. God can suddenly cause.
53. Somebody say, will you come work for me? It’s not just in this room right now. It’s every moment of every day. Father, we pray right now for miracles, for jobs we don’t see, for Igor and for Laura and for Fernando, Lord, and oh God, for Ira. We pray for jobs. For jobs we don’t see, God. You want your children, Lord, to be able to work, Lord, and their needs met.
54. Lord, we believe it is the hour of miracles. We want to thank you, God, for what you’re doing in Angelo’s life, and we want to thank you for content, Michael, what you’re doing, and for Nora, God. Lord, you’re giving Nora songs, Lord.
55. Nora has new songs from the Spirit of the living God. I open up and give Nora more songs that are anointed, Lord, and convicted, Lord. But, Lord, above all, we want to spend time with you and see you take 24 hours and make 24 hours, more than enough, when we make you first.
56. One more time, Victor, it’s your breath in my lungs.
